CHOBA B CCCP (1988)

After a series of studio albums that either didn’t fare the love they deserved or were rightly critiqued for being just alright, Paul gets back to his roots. CHOBA B CCCP is a live studio album recorded over the course of a couple days where Paul pays tribute to the music he loved growing up with.

I won’t break anything down here track by track, because the 1950s style kind of all just blends together. It is pure rock n’ roll music and McCartney sounds just as good as he ever did. Certainly this record had to have be fun for Paul and therapeutic in a way. It felt good to hear. It felt good to here Paul singing songs he obviously loves and had a great time playing. Is this a 5/5 star album? No, but there genuinely are no skips. There is no song on here that is better or worse than the previous. They are all solid and they are all fun! Paul .. Congratulations on your fifth NSA. It is not your most remarkable or mesmerizing NSA, but it is well deserved. This record is consistent from start to finish and is a joy to listen to.

Own it, Stream it, Forget about it?

It all depends on your opinion on Rock N’ Roll before The Beatles. If you love it, then own this and play it without worry of skips. If you don’t care for it, then this album just isn’t for you. Objectively, the record is a fantastic tribute, but it may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
