Kisses On The Bottom (2012)
Paul McCartney has nothing left to prove and now is making and playing music that he wants to play. Kisses On The Bottom is a catalog of songs from his parents generation. Not necessarily the rock n’ roll that inspired him to write his own music, but it’s definitely a period of music that is nostalgic to him.
Paul doesn’t get crazy on this record. He takes great care of the source material he is covering and he creates very lovely and palpable songs. Paul even gets Eric Clapton to play a great part on his original My Valentine, and he gets a wonderful harmonica performance out of Stevie Wonder on his original Only Our Hearts.
You either love the source material on this record or you don’t care for it. Either way, Paul delivers a beautiful tribute to the music of this time period and it can be enjoyed in any Sunday morning setting. Is it a rainy day? Is it a jazzy brunch kind of Sunday? This album, like many other jazz and easy listening/crooners albums, are perfect for the setting.
