All Again (2024)
Queen of Jeans' latest release, All Again, takes listeners on an emotional journey through a series of meticulously crafted tracks that showcase the band's continued growth and versatility. This record perfectly balances melancholic introspection with uplifting indie rock anthems, proving once again why Queen of Jeans is a standout in the indie music scene.
The record opens with All My Friends, a track that is both melancholic and uplifting. The angelic vocals from Devora and the ethereal harmonies from the band create a soundscape that is simultaneously emotional and invigorating. The clean, shimmery guitars and vibrant drums add to the song’s depth, making it a perfect opening to sets the tone for the album.
Following that emotional hard hitting opener, Horny Hangover picks up the energy. This song captures the essence of indie pop rock perfection with its immediately singable and infectious quality. The interplay between the guitars and lead vocals is masterful, reminiscent of 60s chord progressions, yet feeling fresh and modern. The song’s crafting is intelligent and engaging, making it a deeply memorable, standout track.
Karaoke continues this high-energy feel, again delivering pure indie rock. Miriam Devora’s powerful lead vocals and interesting, stylistic drums make this track instantly infectious and singable. It's a sonically feel-good song that fully displays the band’s ability to create high-energy anthems.
Enough to Go Around shifts the mood with a wonderful acoustic number. The emphasis on lyrics, acoustic strums, and piano carries the track. Queen of Jeans’ ability to create intimate, heartfelt songs is well documented here. The track's simplicity and emotional depth make it a poignant moment on the record.
Neighbors features gorgeous piano walklines and intricate instrumentation, adding another layer of sophistication to the record. The piano work is particularly noteworthy, providing a beautiful backdrop to the song's narrative.
Let Me Forget delivers a more reflective tone, with its gentle melodies and introspective lyrics. The track’s emotive vocals and subtle instrumentation create an enchanting listening experience that continues to deepen the record's emotional impact.
Books in Bed is a six-star song that leaves listeners at a loss for words. At least, it does for me. Its flawless execution and emotional impact make it the crowning highlight of the record, symbolizing the band's peak artistry. There is not enough good things I can say about this track as it leaves me in an absolute state afterwards.
However, that Queen of Jeans won’t let you linger in that state for long as Books in Bed seamlessly transitions into Bitter Pill. It is perfectly placed to pick up the energy after the emotional depth of Books in Bed. Its flawless intro and infectious energy make it an essential track that keeps the record’s momentum going.
Go Down Easy then brings a sense of calm, with its soothing melodies and gentle vocals. This track adds a layer of tranquility to the album, offering you a moment of respite amidst the more energetic songs.
Last to Try explores themes of resilience and perseverance, with powerful vocals and uplifting instrumentation before rounding things off with Do It All Again, which encapsulates the journey of the entire record. Its hopeful melodies and harmonies leave listeners with a sense of closure and fulfillment. Sounding like it’s playing out of a dusty speaker in the room next to yours, all 56 seconds of this track calmly and conclusively just tuck you into bed, allowing you to think ... Wow ... what a record.
All Again is a testament to Queen of Jeans' ability to evolve their sound while maintaining the emotional depth and intricate craftsmanship that has defined their music. The album is a harmonious blend of melancholic introspection and uplifting anthems, making it a deeply engaging and rewarding listen from start to finish. Queen of Jeans continues to prove that they are a force to be reckoned with in the indie music scene, delivering an album that ticks all of my boxes and leaves me feeling every possible emotion.
